Former CEO of Tourism Board gets 7 yrs jail for graft

Kathmandu: The Special Court on Thursday sentenced former Chief Executive Officer at Nepal Tourism Board Subash Niraula to seven years in prison. The court also handed down six years jail term each to Chief Account Officer Anil Kumar Das and Worldwide Travel’s Proprietor Mahendra Khanal.
A division bench of Special  Court chaired by Baburam Regmi slapped the seven year’s jail term along with the fine of Rs 8.5 million to Niraula, and Rs 5.4 million as compensation to the NTB, Nepal’s premiere tourism promotion body.

Likewise, Das has been sentenced to six year in prison along with the fine of Rs 5.2 million and Rs 2.4 million as compensation to the NTB.

The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority had earlier registered a charge sheet accusing 23 officials at NTB of involving in the corruption worth Rs 1.39 billion three years back.
