Govt bans 20-yr-old public vehicles from plying across country

Mar 14 2018 | 11:30 pm

Kathmandu: A policy of the government to ban public vehicles crossing 20 years of operation throughout the country is coming into effect from Thursday. The policy has been introduced to do away with growing air pollution and road accidents across the country.
Public vehicles that have operate for more than 20 years would be seized and put into auction if found plying from March 15 onwards, said the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport.

The Ministry said that a directive was given to the police administration to seize 20-year-old vehicles and initiate legal action.

However, transport entrepreneurs have denounced the government policy to take action against 20-year-old vehicles and said they would go to any measures to put pressure on the goverment to roll back the decision.
