18 killed, 14 hurt in tripper accident

At least 18 people were killed and 14 injured in a tripper (lorry) accident at remote Damodarkunda Rural Municipality of western Mustang district on Friday noon, Nepal Police said.

The tripper carrying 32 workers employed to construct Jomsom-Lomanthang road, plunged 50-meter below the road uncontrollably at around 12:30 p.m. (local time). The workers were returning to work after taking morning meal, according to Police.

According to District Police Office, it is taking time to take the injured workers to the hospital as there is no regular movement of vehicles at the accident site.

By 5 p.m. (local time) only five injured were being taken to the hospital at district headquarters Jomsom, in a vehicle, according to police.

A helicopter of Dynasty Air had reached the accident site to airlift the injured to the hospitals. “We have also received information that Nepal Army has sent another helicopter to the accident site,” said Thapa.
