Irate business community protest death of hotelier

Kanchanpur, Feb 29: The district’s business fraternity today took to the streets and enforced a shutdown of the Kaluwapur Bazaar in protest of the murder of a businessman.
Damodar Awasthi, 40, proprietor of Baitadi Hotel and Restaurant was found murdered with a slit throat this morning sparking an outrage among the entrepreneurs.

Following the murder, the businessmen demanded security, arrest of the perpetrator and regulation of the liquor trade before launching the agitation, said Kaluwapur Bazaar Management Committee former Chairman Jaya Bahadur Bista.

Bista said it was an unfortunate incident that a hotel entrepreneur is killed inside a hotel. “We have shut down the bazaar in grief and in protest,” he said.

The entrepreneurs also staged a sit in for half an hour at the Kaluwapur Bazaar’s East-West Highway in a symbolic manner.

Mahakali Zonal Police Office, Mahendranagar Chief, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ram Prasad Shrestha has assured the entrepreneurs of immediate arrest of the guilty, maintaining peace and security and shifting the police post to the Kaluwapur Bazaar area.
